THE medical team at the National Heart Institute (IJN) is satisfied with the level of progress in Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s recovery and his response to medical measures and physiotherapy.

“Today marks a month since Dr Mahathir was treated, and for the past two days, on Feb 4 and 5, he was allowed "home leave" - to return and sleep at his residence.

“In the afternoon, Dr Mahathir returned to IJN to continue his treatment and observation by the medical team,” his office said in a statement today.

Although allowed to return home in stages, Dr Mahathir remains under the supervision of the IJN medical team.

“Doctors still advise Dr Mahathir not to receive visitors other than immediate family for the time being.

“Dr Mahathir, his wife and family would like to express their gratitude to all those who have constantly asked about his health and who have prayed for his health and well-being.”

The former prime minister was admitted to IJN on January 6 for treatment of a fractured right hip after falling at his residence in The Mines. – February 6, 2026
