PENANG Hindu Endowment Board chairman RSN Rayer believes the proposed street rally against illegal places of worship was organised to embarrass Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a scheduled official visit to Malaysia tomorrow.
Hence, Rayer called on the authorities to urge the organisers to scrap or postpone the rally as a mark of respect towards the Indian leader, who is making his maiden visit to the country.
Malaysia is home to one of the largest diasporas of Indian descendants globally.
Rayer pointed out that the coordinator for the rally, Zamri Vinoth Kalimuthu, had a track record of sparking off racial tensions, which could lead to a disruption in public disharmony and Modi's visit.
“I also lodged a police report because I am worried that this rally, if allowed, would cause racial and religious tensions, disrupt the peace and public harmony.
“I believe if this rally by Zamri Vinoth is allowed, it would contribute to racial disunity as Zamri has a tendency to spark off racial tensions between races, as he had previously done."
He also urged the authorities to be mindful that some of the content preached by Zamri Vinoth is seditious.
Zamri Vinoth is an Indian Muslim convert preacher who has had 894 police reports lodged against him for insulting the Hindu faith in the past.
MIC and MIPP have also raised their concerns over the rally. - February 6, 2026.
