UMNO President, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has a good opportunity to become Prime Minister after the upcoming general election (GE).

Former Umno Youth Chief, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar, said that he sees Umno as more stable than other parties that are facing internal friction.

According to him, in addition to this, his leadership style in managing differences of opinion without causing major divisions also gives a positive impression to the people.

"Ahmad Zahid also managed to handle the differences of opinion raised by Umno Youth Chief, Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, before without causing divisions within Umno.

"In addition, from all other political parties, it seems that there are no internal problems in Umno," he said through an audio recording of the Keluar Sekejap (KS) broadcast with Khairy Jamaluddin (KJ) and Shahril Hamdan.

He also believed that the Bagan Datuk MP was likely to maintain support for the existing government until the election before making his next political move.

At the same time, he expected Umno's big victory in Melaka and Johor if the state elections were not held simultaneously with the general election, would give momentum to the party.

“I am not saying that absolute victory in Melaka and Johor will translate into a grand victory in GE16.

“I think Umno is still far from the people’s perception of achieving absolute victory, but I think the results will be better than before,” he said. – February 20, 2026
