BUKIT Tambun State Assemblyman (ADUN), Goh Choon Aik, has been appointed as the new state government EXCO to replace Pantai Jerejak Assemblyman, Fahmi Zainol, whose service ends today.

Choon Aik's appointment was approved by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office today, the appointment was made in accordance with Article 7 of the Penang State Constitution and is effective from the date of the conferment ceremony and the oath of office, allegiance and secrecy as a member of the State Executive Council.

Earlier, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced that Fahmi Zainol, who is facing charges of assaulting his wife, has been terminated from his service as an Exco with immediate effect.

Announcing the matter today, Chow said he met Fahmi this morning, and the Pantai Jerejak State Assemblyman (ADUN) accepted the decision.

Fahmi was previously suspended from his position in PKR pending the outcome of his court case.

According to the Chief Minister's Office, the ceremony to present Choon Aik with his credentials and swearing-in ceremony will be held this Friday at 11 am.

Choon Aik, 52, has served as the Bukit Tambun assemblyman since May 2018 and is a registered town planner for 13 years and a corporate member of the Malaysian Planning Institute.

He started his career in 1998 as a Town and Country Planning Officer at the Penang Development Corporation.

In 2005, he joined GCA Planning Consultants and GCA Planning Sdn Bhd.

From 2008 to 2010, he also held the position of councillor at the Seberang Prai Municipal Council. – March 4, 2026
