THE Deputy Chief Executive (Officer Registration and Business Services) of the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), Khuzairi Yahaya, 55, was again brought before the Sessions Court in Shah Alam today to face three charges of receiving a total of RM13,000 without consideration from a technology entrepreneur approximately eight years ago.

Khuzairi pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out before Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud.

According to the prosecution, Khuzairi Yahaya was alleged to have accepted, for his own benefit, cash payments of RM8,000, RM2,000, and RM3,000 from Sheriza Zakaria, Chief Executive Officer of Big Dataworks Sdn Bhd, knowing that these payments were connected to his official duties.

The offences were said to have occurred between July 2017 and June 2018 at three separate locations: a restaurant in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya; a hospital in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya; and a fast-food restaurant in Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya.

Khuzairi faces charges under Section 165 of the Penal Code [Act 574], which carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.

The move to court follows Khuzairi’s not guilty plea yesterday at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court in relation to a separate charge of accepting RM50,000 without consideration from the son of former Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, also dating back eight years.

During proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin requested that today’s case be transferred to the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court so it could be heard concurrently with the earlier charge. He also requested that the same bail conditions set in the previous case be applied here.

Judge Awang Kerisnada approved the transfer of the case to the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court and fixed 20 April for the next case management.
