JOHOR BARU – A total of 275 flood evacuees are seeking shelter at two temporary relief centres here due to their homes being inundated by floodwaters since yesterday.

State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said that of the total, 90 people are placed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu 10 in Skudai while the remaining 185 victims are housed at Dewan Muafakat Kg Cahaya Baru, Masai.

“Among the affected areas are Kg Laut Batu 10, Skudai, Kg Sentosa Barat and Kg Sentosa Damai,” he said in a statement today.

Vidyananthan said that apart from the continuous heavy downpour, the floods are also caused by high tide.

He added that the victims who were earlier evacuated to Sekolah Agama Kg Cahaya Baru have been transferred to the relief centre at Dewan Muafakat Kg Cahaya Baru, Masai due to the increase in the number of evacuees last night. – Bernama, January 2, 2021
