THE Mosque Parish Committees in Perlis have been urged to conduct Eid al-Fitr prayers in open-air spaces or designated musolla (small prayer area) in line with the sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, with carefully coordinated timing to ensure uniformity across the state.

The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, advised that the Eid prayers be held between 7.45 am and 8.15 am, depending on the schedule selected by each parish committee.

He stressed that committees must designate suitable open-air sites and communicate the chosen timing effectively to their congregations.

“However, parish committees may consider using indoor mosque spaces if required, based on available capacity and expected attendance,” Harian Metro reported Tuanku Syed Faizuddin saying.

He added that for locations other than designated musolla, such as official surau in Perlis, the conduct of prayers should be referred to the Mosque Parish Committee and approved by the Perlis Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIPs).

The Raja Muda emphasised contingency plans in the event of adverse weather. “If the weather does not permit, Eid prayers will be conducted inside the parish mosque at 8.15 am,” he said, noting that any change in location must be communicated by 7.45 am to parish committees.

In a specific instruction for Kota Raja Arau, prayers will be held at Dataran Istiadat, Istana Arau at 8 am, with a fallback to the prayer hall of Masjid Negeri Arau in case of inclement weather.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin highlighted that mosque management must follow proper protocols for the Eid prayer, including the recitation of takbir, performance of the prayer, delivery of the khutbah, and other rites in accordance with guidelines issued by the Perlis Mufti Department.

He also advised worshippers to bring their own prayer mats, perform ablutions at home, and adhere to health precautions such as wearing masks for those with medical vulnerabilities.

These measures aim to balance religious observance with public safety, ensuring that Eid celebrations in Perlis proceed smoothly while remaining mindful of congregants’ wellbeing. - March 19, 2026
