KUALA LUMPUR – The ruling Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition has been slammed by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin as he described it as without clear idealism.

In a video posted on Facebook, Khaled did not mince his words, saying that one of the many critical weaknesses of PN, is its inability to rake in support of the non-Malay populace.

“PN was formed on an ad hoc basis on a parliamentary level without clear idealism and a strategic mission for Malaysia.”

Speaking at the opening of Pasir Gudang Umno’s division meeting, he reminded attendees that Barisan Nasional (BN), moderation and centrist politics are the brand that will return Umno to power.

“The pursuit of Malay rights must not result in the neglect of other races.”

He said the party’s current position in government is nothing to be proud about, especially given that it does not possess the people’s mandate.

“Remember, we are not in power because we won an election, we lost in the democratic arena during 2018. We were only lucky that Pakatan Harapan (PH) was inexperienced and power-hungry.”

Perikatan Nasional came into power late February after the infamous Sheraton Move that toppled the PH administration after several MPs switched sides.

He also urged party members to continue rejecting narrow and extremist views.

“We have heard that people perceive our relationship with PAS has resulted in Umno becoming an ultra-Malay Islamist party.

“We must be aware if we want to rule again, Malays must not just unite but chart a course to administer the country with other races.” – The Vibes, January 2, 2021
