THE Ministry of Finance (MOF) has announced strict enforcement action against individuals found misusing subsidised fuel under the BUDI MADANI RON95 scheme, including blocking their identity cards and revoking eligibility for future benefits.
The move follows the circulation of a viral video on social media showing individuals filling subsidised RON95 petrol into containers placed in a vehicle, prompting an official investigation.
In a statement, the ministry said investigations confirmed the individual involved was a Malaysian citizen and MyKad holder, and that enforcement action would be taken against both the person and the registered vehicle owner.
“Investigations found that the individual involved is a Malaysian citizen and a MyKad holder. As a result, the Ministry of Finance will take action to block the identity card used in the transaction and bar the vehicle owner from continuing to benefit from BUDI95,” the statement said.
“The act clearly violates regulations as it constitutes misuse of fuel subsidies under the BUDI95 programme and has the potential to undermine the government’s efforts to ensure subsidy management is transparent, targeted and effective.”
“The government will not compromise on any form of leakage or misuse of subsidies, particularly amid current uncertainties that require close control over fuel supply and pricing,” it said.
“The government greatly appreciates members of the public who are vigilant and who have come forward with reports on the matter.”
