THE discovery of a deceased newborn boy, still with his umbilical cord attached, near a telecommunications substation has prompted a police investigation in Kuala Pilah, with authorities appealing to the public for information.

Kuala Pilah Deputy District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Shamrol Shah Ramli, said police were alerted to the incident via a telephone call at approximately 6.30pm yesterday.

Following the report, a team of officers from the Kuala Pilah District Police Headquarters, together with the Negeri Sembilan contingent’s forensic unit, was dispatched to the scene near Masjid Rembang Panas to conduct an examination.

“Initial inspection found the body to be that of a male baby, fully formed and still with the umbilical cord attached. Further examination indicated that the baby had died approximately two days earlier and had begun to decompose.

“Physical examination did not reveal any external injuries. The identity of the baby remains unknown and the cause of death is still under investigation.

“The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement today.

He added that the infant’s body has been sent to Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Najihah for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.

Police have urged members of the public with any information related to the case to come forward to assist in the investigation by contacting the Kuala Pilah District Police Headquarters or the investigating officer. - March 27, 2026
