THE Government is establishing a centralised communications command structure and will begin daily briefings as it intensifies its response to the global energy crisis and escalating conflict in the Middle East.
Unity Government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the briefings, to be held at about 4pm each day, will be led by Deputy Prime Minister II Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who will chair the Communications Command Centre.
“The command centre will have periodic meetings, which might take place daily.
“It will coordinate communications on the government’s measures and response to the global energy crisis and the Middle East conflict,” Fahmi said at his weekly press conference on Wednesday), following the Cabinet meeting.
The move comes as Putrajaya seeks to present a unified and timely flow of information to the public amid heightened uncertainty in global energy markets.
Fahmi said the first in a series of updates is expected on Thursday evening, led by Fadillah.
“There will be several updates on Thursday evening (April 2), firstly by Fadillah,” he added.
Further policy direction may also emerge after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim chairs a meeting with the various Chief Ministers And Menteris Besar on Thursday morning, focusing on the domestic economic impact of the crisis.
“The meeting is about the global energy crisis and its domestic economic effects. A few matters will be discussed and suggestions will also be scrutinised,” he said.
Meanwhile, oil prices have remained volatile amid the geopolitical tensions, with Brent crude recorded at US$99.68 per barrel as of 3.30pm on April 1.
The fluctuations follow the escalation of conflict in the Middle East after the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran on Feb 28, triggering the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. - April 1, 2026
