THE 13-year-old schoolgirl injured in a crash involving a teacher’s vehicle outside a secondary school in Tanjong Mas is now in stable condition, health authorities have confirmed, as calls grow for the public to refrain from speculation while investigations continue.

Kelantan State Health Department director Datuk Dr Mohd Azman Yacob said the victim, Zara Akhtar Zamzuri, sustained injuries to her head and face and is currently receiving treatment at Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II.

He said the girl is conscious and under close medical supervision, with efforts focused on ensuring a full recovery without complications.

“We will continue to ensure the patient receives the best possible treatment and close monitoring until she fully recovers without any complications.

“Accordingly, we hope the public will join in praying for the well-being of the victim.

“At the same time, as the case is still under police investigation, we urge all parties not to speculate or spread unverified information regarding the incident,” he said in a statement.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon outside the surau of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tanjong Mas, where two students were struck by a car driven by a female teacher at about 1.50pm.

One of the two victims, 13-year-old Nur Fatimatul Hawa Mohd Azaudin, died from her injuries, while Zara was seriously hurt.

Initial police findings indicate that the teacher may have accidentally pressed the accelerator, causing the vehicle to lose control before hitting the two students.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azmir Damiri said investigations into the incident are ongoing. - April 13, 2026
