THE Selangor government has allocated a total of RM130.42 million through their resilience strengthening package to address the impact of the West Asian crisis on the state's economy and people.

Its Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, said the allocation includes immediate and moderate measures, including food security, inflation control and assistance to the vulnerable.

He said the conflict in West Asia has a direct impact on the global supply chain, including oil, gas and food.

"Even if this war subsides, the capacity of the crude oil, gas, fertiliser, sulphur and ecosystems will take at least a year to return to pre-war production rates.

"That is why, in Selangor, we cannot take a wait-and-see approach, but must prepare to face this situation over a long period of time," he said in a special press conference today.

He said the package also focuses on increasing the use of public transport and targeted assistance to the people.

He said that from the allocation of RM5 million, there will be an additional Jelajah Ehsan Rahmah (JER), which is organised once a month in each State Legislative Assembly (DUN) in the state.

“This will be able to ease the cost of living of low-income people and will benefit up to 168,000 households,” he said.

He added that RM50 million will be channelled to the Selangor Food Warehouse (GMS) to increase food supply stocks.

“This measure is so that in the event of any shortage of food imports, Selangor can activate the GMS, which has stocks such as rice and protein so that the price of raw goods does not skyrocket too high,” he said.

In addition, Amirudin announced that Selangor will introduce a Kita Selangor voucher worth RM100 per month for a period of six months for 50,000 citizens of the state and free breakfast assistance for students in 873 schools in the state.

He also announced that assistance to the agricultural sector of between RM300 and RM600 per month will be channelled for a period of six months.

"The package also allocates RM6 million for the empowerment of Selangor cooperative entrepreneurs," said Amirudin. - April 16, 2026
