MALAYSIAN ships were among the first to be granted passage through the Strait of Hormuz, with the crude oil tanker Ocean Thunder safely arriving at the Pengerang Terminal.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said early negotiations with the Iranian President allowed the Malaysian ships to pass.

"Right now we are still looking for a solution between the pressure from the United States to dominate the region, the pressure from Iran to defend their rights and the European demands that were negotiated last night regarding the future of the Strait of Hormuz.

"But thankfully, we contacted the Iranian President early on, allowing our ship to pass.

"There are still some of our ships that are stuck or damaged, but we hope it can be resolved. This problem is faced by everyone," he said.

He said this after officiating the New Terminal at the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport (LTSIP), Kota Bahru, today.

Also present were Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.

In a similar development, Anwar said that the price of fuel had also increased following a 150 per cent hike in insurance prices.

"Some people ask, if oil has come in from the Strait of Hormuz, why is it so expensive? My answer is because insurance prices have increased 150 percent and transportation has also increased due to risks," he said. – April 18, 2026
