POLICE arrested a man after he fled a roadblock during a Compliance Operation on Jalan Kampung Sungai Karang in Pontian, yesterday.
Pontian District Police Chief, Superintendent Hadzrat Hussien Mion Hussain said that in the 9 am incident, the suspect, a 37-year-old local man driving a Honda City, was observed acting suspiciously.
"The suspect was ordered to stop by members of the Pontian District Police Headquarters' Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division.
"However, the man acted aggressively by speeding up and driving dangerously, including recklessly overtaking other vehicles to avoid being arrested," he said in a statement today.
He said police then chased the vehicle from the checkpoint before successfully arresting him at Kilometre 15 of Jalan Pontian-Kukup, near Jalan Berbatu.
The results of a urine test found the suspect positive for methamphetamine.
According to Hadzrat Hussien, a check of records also found that the man had two drug-related offences and obstructing a public servant from carrying out his duties.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987, Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act. 1952.
If convicted, the suspect could face jail time, fines and disqualification from driving, he said.
In the same operation, he said, a total of 60 individuals and 47 vehicles were inspected with 12 summonses issued for various offences, including modifying exhausts, no driving licences, and not displaying registration number plates. – April 23, 2026
