TWO Kedah state assemblymen recently expelled from Bersatu remain in office and continue to serve within the state administration, according to Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.
Sanusi said any decision affecting Dzowahir Ab Ghani, the Suka Menanti assemblyman and state executive councillor for Agriculture, Plantations and Transport, as well as Abdul Razak Khamis, the Sungai Tiang assemblyman and Deputy Speaker of the Kedah state legislative assembly, must go through proper administrative procedures and receive royal consent from the Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah.
He emphasised that both individuals are continuing their duties as usual for now.
“All actions must follow administrative procedures. We need to discuss in detail, present it to His Royal Highness the Sultan, and go through the required processes. They are still carrying out their duties (as state EXCO and Deputy Speaker) as normal at this time,” Sanusi said.
He added that the two assemblymen are currently considered independents but continue to support the state government.
“They are not in the opposition, but rather Independent assemblymen supporting the state government. Their position will be discussed further,” he said.
Sanusi said Bersatu had earlier submitted a request for changes to the EXCO and Deputy Speaker positions, but no action was taken at the time as the individuals concerned were still party members.
He added that the matter had also been discussed with Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and party secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali during an Aidilfitri open house event in April.
“At that time, they had not yet been subjected to disciplinary action by the party, so there was no reason to replace them with others.
“Now that an official letter of expulsion has been received, any action is still subject to the procedures for appointing EXCO members and the Deputy Speaker,” he said.
Bersatu confirmed the expulsions in a notice issued by disciplinary board chairman Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan, stating that Dzowahir and Abdul Razak were removed from the party with immediate effect.
The expulsions were carried out under Clause 22.5 of the party constitution for alleged breaches of Clause 9.1.4 of the Bersatu constitution and the party’s Code of Ethics and Conduct.
In a separate development, seven other lawmakers have been suspended for two party election terms. The group includes five Members of Parliament and two state assemblymen.
The MPs affected are Nordin Ahmad Ismail (Lumut), Datuk Rosol Wahid (Hulu Terengganu), Abdul Khalib Abdullah (Rompin), Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor (Ketereh) and Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (Tanah Merah).
The two suspended state assemblymen are Syed Lukman Hakim Syed Mohd Zain (Chenderoh) and Ahmad Man (Kuala Sepetang). - May 9, 2026
