KUALA LUMPUR – Four individuals have been arrested by the Johor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for their alleged involvement in smuggling frozen products from banned countries into Malaysia.
They are directors and staffers of a frozen meat import company. They are aged between 39 and 50, and were arrested last night.
“Investigations are being carried out under the MACC Act 2009. The suspects were identified with the cooperation of the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, Veterinary Services Department, Malaysian Quarantine Inspection Services Department (Maqis) and Customs Department,” said a source.
Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrests.
The suspects will be brought to court today for a remand application.
It was reported on December 2 that there is a syndicate smuggling in frozen meat from China, Ukraine, Brazil and Argentina, and repackaging the products with the halal logo at a warehouse in Senai, Johor Baru. – The Vibes, January 4, 2021
