POLICE have detained six local men in connection with the brutal killing of a young man outside a food premises in Pekan Nanas, Johor, following a rapid overnight operation involving multiple specialised crime units.

The suspects, aged between 18 and 22, were arrested less than 24 hours after the fatal incident, which occurred at approximately 3.50am on Thursday.

Pontian district police chief Hadzrat Hussein Mion Hussain said the arrests were carried out through coordinated operations involving the Johor Contingent Crime Task Force and the Criminal Investigation Division of the Pontian district police headquarters.

According to him, police conducted raids at two separate locations during efforts to track down those believed responsible for the murder, namely Taman Botani in Batu Pahat and the Pangsapuri Awam Lima Kedai housing area in Gelang Patah.

“Results from the raids led to the arrest of six local male suspects aged between 18 and 22.

“All of them have various criminal and drug abuse records,” he said in a statement today.

Police also seized two vehicles believed linked to the case, namely a Nissan Navara and a Toyota Estima, together with a machete, five black face masks and an iPhone.

Hadzrat said the total value of the seized items was estimated at RM120,000.

“All suspects have been remanded for seven days until May 28 and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“Based on interrogation, all suspects admitted involvement in the incident which resulted in the victim’s death,” he said.

Investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the killing, while efforts are ongoing to trace another suspect who remains at large.
