A MAGISTRATES’ court in Johor Bharu fined 31 Chinese nationals RM3,500 each after they pleaded guilty to participating in a criminal conspiracy connected to a fraudulent part-time job scam syndicate operating out of Gelang Patah.

The accused entered their guilty pleas after the charges were read before Magistrate Puan Nur Fatin Mohamad Farid.

The case centred on a scam operation involving fake part-time job offers run through a call centre syndicate targeting victims with non-existent employment opportunities.

Under the charges, all 31 individuals were accused of engaging in a criminal conspiracy to conduct the fraudulent scheme in Gelang Patah. The prosecution proceeded under Section 417 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 120B of the same code.

The court subsequently imposed a RM3,500 fine on each accused, with all penalties reported to have been paid in full.

In the same operation, four other Chinese nationals who were detained alongside the group were granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) to allow authorities to complete identity verification procedures.

They are expected to be re-charged in court on May 28. - May 27, 2026
