The tragedy leaves a mother and her young son dead while three other family members sustained serious injuries - June 17, 2026

A WOMAN and her 10-year-old son were killed, while three other members of the same family were seriously injured after the Proton X70 they were travelling in collided with an unloaded trailer in Taman Lestari Hijau, Kulai, on Tuesday evening.

The deceased were identified as the 36-year-old female driver of the sport utility vehicle and a 10-year-old boy.

The remaining three occupants of the vehicle suffered serious injuries and were rushed to hospital for further treatment.

Kulai Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Senior Fire Officer I Mohd Fauzi Che Idris said the department received an emergency call reporting the collision at 7.36pm.

He said 14 firefighters from the Kulai and Pekan Nenas Fire and Rescue Stations were deployed to the scene with two Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) engines and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit.

"The accident involved a trailer and a Proton X70 carrying five occupants, with two of them found trapped inside the vehicle."

"The rescue team immediately extricated the victims. However, two victims were pronounced dead at the scene by the attending medical officer," he said in a statement.

Mohd Fauzi said the three injured victims were transported to hospital for further medical treatment, while the trailer driver escaped unharmed.

He added that the exact cause of the collision remains under investigation and that rescue operations concluded at 10.15pm. - June 17, 2026
