THREE people, including a doctor and his two-year-old daughter, and a senior Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) officer, were killed in an accident involving three vehicles at Kilometre 67, Jalan Kuantan - Segamat near Chini, yesterday.

The victims killed in the accident at about 6pm were Segamat Hospital medical officer Dr Mohamad Zekry Zuhairy Mohd Atan, 33, his daughter Dhea Sofia, 2, and Cyberjaya Branch LHDN Chief Assistant Director Azaharuddin Mohd Ali, 46.

Pekan District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the accident also injured three car passengers, two MPV passengers and the pickup driver.

According to him, at the time of the incident, the car driven by the medical officer and the MPV driven by Azaharuddin were travelling from Segamat to Kuantan, while the pickup was driven by a 31-year-old man from the opposite direction.

"The accident is believed to have occurred after the pickup truck involved tried to overtake a lorry.

"However, the vehicle is believed to have lost control and skidded into the right lane and collided with a car and an MPV from the opposite direction.

"As a result of the accident, the driver of the car and MPV died at the scene," he said in a statement.

Mohd Zaidi said a girl was also confirmed dead upon arrival at the Chini Health Clinic.

According to him, the three injured passengers in the car were the wife of Dr Mohamad Zekry, also a medical officer at Segamat Hospital, Dr Hana Ibrahim, 35, and the father and mother, aged 72 and 80, respectively.

"Also injured were the passengers of the MPV, namely Azaharuddin's wife, Fatimah Awing Kechik, 46, and his son Aiman ​​Faez Al-Amini, 15," he said.

All the injured victims are being treated at the Pekan Hospital, while the victim's body has also been sent to the same hospital for a post-mortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless driving causing a fatal accident. – June 20, 2026
