THE Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) is tracking a man who went viral on social media after allegedly bringing a snake into a car, causing trauma to a woman at the Stadthuys Building area of Banda Hilir in Melaka, last Monday.

MBMB Mayor, Datuk Shadan Othman, said they viewed the incident seriously and were conducting an investigation to identify the individual involved.

According to him, MBMB has never approved permits or licenses to any street artists who bring animals due to safety and hygiene factors.

"We are tracking the individual involved, and if identified, a compound will be imposed. We are also investigating whether he is the same individual who has previously submitted a license application to MBMB," he said.

Shadan said that MBMB does not allow street artist activities involving animals, even if the animals are not venomous or dangerous.

He said that in an effort to boost the state's tourism sector, street artists need to ensure their own safety and that of the public, in addition to obtaining a valid permit from MBMB.

Earlier, a sales assistant, Nik Hanis Allysa Abdullah, 21, claimed to have experienced a moment of anxiety after the man approached her car before bringing the reptile into the vehicle through the open front window.

The incident occurred at around 11 pm when she, a friend and her younger brother stopped in front of the Stadthuys Building after returning from work.

"I asked the man several times not to put the snake in the car, but he still pushed it towards me, making me cry.

"In panic, I opened the car door and lifted one foot to avoid the snake, but forgot to change the gear of the vehicle, which was still in drive mode.

"At that time, the car moved forward while one foot was outside. Fortunately, nothing bad happened," she said.

She hoped that the relevant authorities could take appropriate action against the individual involved because his actions not only scared her but also had the potential to cause an accident.

Meanwhile, Acting Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, Superintendent Halim Abas, said police had not received any reports regarding the viral incident so far. – June 24, 2026
