THE Opposition insists that fugitive businessman, Low Taek Jho or Jho Low, should be brought before a court in Malaysia immediately to answer charges related to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, regardless of any action that may be taken by the United States.
PAS Deputy President, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, said that Malaysia has its own legal system and should not be bound by any decision of the United States regarding Jho Low.
According to him, Jho Low's actions allegedly had a major impact on the country's economy, and the legal process in Malaysia must continue to ensure that justice can be served.
"We have our own laws; what the United States does is their business, and our country is very affected by Jho Low's actions and the huge impact it has on the country's economy."
“We still insist that Jho Low must be brought to court for his actions. Whether he is guilty or not should be decided by the court, but he must be brought to court first,” he said.
He said this when asked to comment on reports that Jho Low was allegedly about to receive a pardon in the United States.
Tuan Ibrahim said that the United States’ actions on the issue of granting a pardon or not were irrelevant to this country.
“The main issue is that Jho Low is accused of breaking the law in Malaysia.
“If they want to release him because they feel he did not commit any crime in their country, that has nothing to do with us; the issue is our national funds and our national laws,” he said.
He also hopes that the authorities will expedite action to bring Jho Low back to Malaysia through the extradition process so that he can be brought to court.
“We hope that the authorities will take immediate action, including extradition efforts to bring Jho Low back to Malaysia to be brought to court,” he said.
Earlier today, the White House moved to dismiss circulating online claims suggesting that Jho Low had been included in the pardon list.
Officials clarified that he was not among those considered in the latest round of clemency decisions, rejecting speculation that had emerged on social media and in unverified reports. – July 4, 2026
