SAFM demands fair, transparent probe into Rocky's death

PERSATUAN Haiwan Terbiar Malaysia (SAFM) has urged the police and the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) to conduct a transparent investigation into the death of a pet dog named Rocky, which went viral on social media.

Its president, R. Kalaivanan, said that his party had not drawn any conclusions regarding the cause of the animal's death as the matter needed to be determined through an official DVS investigation.

According to him, SAFM was only helping the owner obtain guidance, support and legal assistance so that the case could be investigated through the correct channels and based on evidence.

“We hope that DVS and PDRM will investigate this case transparently because there may be parts of the incident that need to be examined before the video was recorded.

“We want this case to go through the real process so that justice can be given to Rocky,” he said at the Justice for Rocky press conference today.

Kalaivanan said, based on information received, Rocky was allegedly hit on the head before being caught, and when the owner arrived at the location, the dog was in a state of being choked.

However, he stressed that the allegations still required a thorough investigation by the authorities.

At the same time, he said, the issue of animal licenses should not be used as an excuse to cause pain or suffering to pets.

He added that the Rocky case was not just about a dog, but should be used as a basis for reviewing the SOP for capturing animals by local authorities.

Meanwhile, the investigation paper on the death of Rocky during a stray dog ​​capture operation in Taman Teluk Gedung Indah was submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office (TPR) yesterday.

According to reports, South Klang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Lim Jit Huey, said police are awaiting further instructions from the DPP.

"The investigation paper on Rocky's case was referred to the DPP yesterday. Awaiting further instructions," he said.

The dog’s death was being investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code, which covers mischief by killing or maiming an animal.
