Officer charged with making RM16,344 in false claims

KUALA TERENGGANU – A Fire and Rescue Academy officer pleaded not guilty at the sessions court here today to two counts of making false claims amounting to RM16,344.

Muhammad Rasydan Ismail, 36, was alleged to have handed over to accounting officer Wan Noor Kasmaliza Awang an invoice by Pak Su Global Enterprise for RM6,480 for the purchase of food and drinks for a programme purportedly held from May 6 to 8 in 2018, but no such purchase was made.

He was also charged with committing a similar offence, involving an invoice from the same company, amounting to RM9,864, to provide food and drinks for participants in a flood operations management workshop purportedly held from December 3 to 5 in 2017, but no such purchase was made.

The offences were allegedly committed at the finance division of the Fire and Rescue Academy in Marang in June 2018 and Dec 2017.

Judge Jamaluddin Mat allowed the suspect bail of RM10,000 with one surety for both charges.

Rasydan was ordered to report at the nearest Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office every month and to surrender his passport to the court.

The court set February 2 for mention.

Prosecuting officer from MACC Mohd Aliff Shaharuzaman prosecuted, while Rasydan was represented by lawyer Nur Shahida Shaifuddin. – Bernama, January 5, 2021
