A TOTAL of 11,338 of the 16,467 eligible early voters had cast their ballots by 12 noon in the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election, delivering an overall turnout of 68.85 per cent, according to the Election Commission (SPR).
Police personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the General Operations Force (PGA) and their spouses recorded the highest participation rate, with 3,859 of the 5,174 eligible voters in the category, or 74.58 per cent, having voted.
Among members of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and their spouses, 7,479 of the 11,293 eligible early voters had cast their ballots by midday, representing a turnout of 66.23 per cent.
The latest figures significantly exceeded the turnout recorded at the same point during the 2023 Negeri Sembilan state election, when 13,409 of 26,079 eligible early voters had voted, equivalent to 51.42 per cent.
Early voting commenced at 8.00am today for eligible members of the PDRM, PGA and the Malaysian Armed Forces, together with their spouses.
Earlier, turnout at 11.00am stood at 53.26 per cent, with 5,566 military personnel and their spouses, as well as 3,205 police personnel and their spouses, having completed the voting process.
In total, 22,339 early voters are eligible to participate in the election. Of these, 16,467 are voting in person, comprising 11,293 military personnel and their spouses and 5,174 police personnel and their spouses, while the remainder are casting their ballots by post.
Meanwhile, 18 of the 38 early voting centres established for security personnel and their spouses closed at 12 noon after completing polling.
The centres, which opened at 8.00am, are closing in stages according to their respective constituencies and the number of registered voters.
Among those that closed at noon were polling centres at the Jelebu District Police Headquarters serving the Chennah and Pertang state constituencies, the Jempol District Police Headquarters for Jeram Padang, the Nilai District Police Headquarters for Lenggeng, the 508 Regiment Training Hall at Jalan Rasah Camp for Nilai, the Kuala Pilah District Police Headquarters serving Seri Menanti and Johol, and the Labu Police Station.
The 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election is being contested by 103 candidates across all 36 state constituencies, with 867,151 ordinary voters due to cast their ballots on Saturday. - July 28, 2026
