A MAN was charged at the Teluk Intan Magistrate’s Court on Thursday with four offences, including the murder of two teenage students who died in a road incident near Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Setia on Sunday.
Alex Robert, 28, was charged with murdering Nur Dania Arissa Salim, 17, and Nur Atikah Abdullah, 16, at about 6.35pm on July 26 near the school along Jalan Padang Tembak, Teluk Intan.
No plea was recorded for the two murder charges as cases involving offences under Section 302 of the Penal Code fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code (Act 574), which carries the death penalty or imprisonment for between 30 and 40 years. If the death sentence is not imposed, the convicted person may also face not less than 12 strokes of the cane.
The accused, who works in Singapore, was also charged with driving a Honda Civic under the influence of drugs, resulting in his inability to properly control the vehicle and causing injuries to a seven-year-old pedestrian, Adam Arjuna Abdullah, at the same location and time.
The third charge was brought under Section 44(1A)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333).
He was also charged under Section 43(1) of the same Act for driving without due care and attention, resulting in a collision involving A Suresh, 50.
For the offence under Section 44(1A)(a), the accused faces a possible jail term of between seven and 10 years, a fine of not less than RM30,000 and not more than RM50,000, and disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence for at least seven years from the date of conviction.
For the fourth charge, he faces a fine of between RM5,000 and RM10,000, or imprisonment of up to 12 months, and endorsement of the offence on any driving licence held.
The accused pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out before Magistrate Naidatul Athirah Azman.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutors Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani, Izzuddin Fakri Hamdan and Nur Darwis Aghniya Halim Azizi, while the accused was represented by lawyer Koh Shean Wai.
The prosecution requested a new mention date to obtain the post-mortem reports of the two victims, the accused’s toxicology report and other relevant documents before the case is transferred to the High Court.
The court fixed Sept 11, 2026, for further mention of the case. - July 30, 2026
