PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reminded Malaysians, particularly the younger generation, that the nation's freedom, independence, peace and prosperity are the enduring legacy of the sacrifices made by members of the country's defence and security forces.
Speaking after attending the National Warriors' Day Parade 2026 at Dataran Pahlawan Negara on Friday, Anwar said the specially staged dramatic performance, Darah Pahlawan Ulu Legong, was more than a ceremonial presentation, serving instead as a poignant reminder of the price paid by the nation's heroes to defend the country.
“The performance was very impressive, moving and deeply emotional. However, it was not merely a theatrical presentation, but a reminder of the sacrifices made by our national heroes.
“Today's generation must always remember that this country is free, independent, peaceful and prosperous because of the service and sacrifices of our defence personnel,” he said.
Anwar also congratulated the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and the Ministry of Defence for producing the performance, saying it successfully conveyed the true meaning of independence and the immense sacrifices required to safeguard it.
“I congratulate the Chief of Defence Forces and the Ministry of Defence for successfully reminding the present generation of the true meaning of independence and the sacrifices needed to defend it.
“We also pray that all members of our security forces will continue to be protected as they carry out their duties to the nation,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chief of Defence Forces General Tan Sri Malek Razak Sulaiman urged Malaysians to continue honouring the sacrifices of the nation's heroes, stressing that their service in safeguarding the country's independence, sovereignty and peace must never be forgotten.
He said the spirit of patriotism and appreciation for the nation's warriors should be continually nurtured so that their sacrifices remain a source of inspiration for present and future generations in preserving the country's security, stability and prosperity.
In conjunction with Warriors' Day 2026, Malek Razak also extended his greetings to all members of the Malaysian Armed Forces, including serving personnel, veterans and the families of those who died or made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of the nation.
“Today is a manifestation of our appreciation for all the nation's heroes and the warriors of the Malaysian Armed Forces who have sacrificed so much to achieve and preserve our country's independence.
“It is also a reminder to the present and future generations that appreciation for our national heroes must always be instilled in the minds of all Malaysians so that their sacrifices will never be forgotten,” he said after the parade. - July 31, 2026
