THE tanker driver involved in the accident that claimed the lives of a mother and son at Kilometre 9, Jalan Temerloh-Triang, near Kampung Lebak, yesterday, has been remanded for four days to assist investigations.
Temerloh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasyim Bahron, said the 37-year-old man was remanded from today until next Tuesday.
According to him, the tanker driver involved is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless driving and causing a fatal accident.
"The results of a urine screening test conducted on the man involved were confirmed negative for drugs," he said in a statement.
In the incident at about 4 pm yesterday, a woman and her son were burnt to death after their car was hit by a tanker truck carrying 32,000 litres of diesel.
The accident also caused the lorry and car to catch fire, and the two were burnt to death.
However, the tanker driver only sustained minor injuries.
The incident occurred when the car was travelling from Jerantut to Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.
Initial police investigations found that the accident occurred after the tanker travelling from Seremban to Temerloh skidded and overturned, hitting the car.
Mohd Nasyim said that the post-mortem process on the two bodies involved was carried out at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Hospital today.
According to him, the burial may not be possible until the results of the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test on the two victims involved are obtained.
However, he said that until now, the victims' relatives have not come forward to confirm the identities of the two involved.
The victims are Nur Fatima Abdullah, 39, and her son, Muhamad Fattah Aisy Nuafal Saifulnizam, 12, from Jerantut. – August 15, 2026
