SECANGKIR Cafe in Sungai Karang, Kuantan, Pahang will operate for the last time today, after its owner, the late Nur Atiqah Sofiya Mohd Kazwan, 32, died in a horrific accident on the East Coast Highway 1 (LPT1) last Monday.
The deceased's family announced that the decision to end operations was made after the loss of the person who was the main pillar of the business.
"We are so sorry, but we have to because the life and spirit of the cafe is gone," according to the deceased's family's sharing on Threads.
According to the family, they lack the expertise to keep producing the cakes that define Secangkir Cafe because each cake the deceased made is unique, with a different menu offered every week.
"The last operation today, Friday, September 4, will take place from 3 pm to 9 pm and will only offer coffee and cakes in very limited quantities.
"Customers are also limited to purchasing one piece of cake per person, while only 300 cups of coffee will be provided," they said.
At the same time, the deceased's family also announced that all the shop's stock and equipment will be auctioned.
The proceeds from the sale will be used to pay off any debts the deceased may have owed and to resolve outstanding matters.
The family admitted that the decision to end the cafe's operations was very difficult, but described it as the best choice after losing the owner who ran the business.
They also expressed their gratitude to all the customers who have supported Secangkir Cafe since it was established about two years ago.
The deceased Nur Atiqah Sofiya was reported to have died with her husband, Muhammad Nazatullah Nazmi, 32, and their son in an accident at Kilometre 110.4 LPT1, Temerloh.
The family was in a Proton S70, while another man in a Honda CR-V also died in the accident.
The chain of accidents involved 11 vehicles, including an express bus, cement tanker, pickup truck, multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), sport utility vehicle (SUV) and several cars.
The late Sofiya is understood to have had a deep interest in cake making before deciding to venture into business and open Secangkir Cafe about two years ago. – September 4, 2026
