A FORMER minister is expected to be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow in connection with a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigation.

MACC, in a media invitation issued today, said it had obtained approval to prosecute the former minister, who is scheduled to appear before the court at 8.30am.

The agency did not name the individual.

However, the former minister is believed to be Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, who served as minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Religious Affairs from 2009 to 2018.

Jamil Khir was recently remanded by MACC as part of an investigation linked to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the management and governance of Lembaga Tabung Haji.

He was initially remanded for five days, with the remand later extended by another two days.

The investigation is understood to concern matters raised by the RCI, including decisions involving Tabung Haji during Jamil Khir’s tenure.

Jamil Khir has previously maintained that decisions made during his time as minister were based on recommendations by Tabung Haji’s board and followed the fund’s established procedures.

MACC has not disclosed the specific charges to be brought against the former minister.

Further details are expected to emerge when the charges are read in court tomorrow.

The former minister is presumed innocent until proven guilty. - September 13, 2026
