MALAYSIA and Egypt are set to elevate their bilateral relations to a strategic partnership during Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi’s state visit, as trade between the two countries rose 74.7% to RM3.49 billion in the first eight months of 2026.
Wisma Putra, in a statement of Friday, said Al Sisi will be in Malaysia from Oct 9 to 10 at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, in his first state visit to the country since assuming office in June 2014.
He will be accompanied by Egyptian Cabinet ministers and senior government officials.
The visit is expected to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, which established diplomatic relations in 1959 and have maintained ties through bilateral and multilateral engagements.
Al Sisi will attend a state welcoming ceremony and have an audience with Sultan Ibrahim at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur. The King will also host a state banquet in honour of the Egyptian president and his delegation.
The Egyptian leader is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to review bilateral cooperation and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Both leaders will witness the exchange of memoranda of understanding before Anwar hosts an official hi-tea for Al Sisi at the Seri Perdana Complex.
