Johor cops arrest suspect in Molotov cocktail incidents

JOHOR BARU – Police yesterday arrested a man believed to have thrown Molotov cocktails and red paint in several incidents recently.

Seri Alam district acting police chief Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the 36-year-old was detained in front of a grocery shop in Taman Ria, Plentong, near here, about 7am.

He said initial investigations showed that the man allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail in front of a house in Taman Molek here, as well as red paint in front of another victim’s home in Taman Bukit Tiram, between 9.30am and 11.15am two days ago.

Various items allegedly used by the man to threaten victims to make repayments to loan sharks have been seized.

The suspect is also believed to be linked to similar incidents in other districts.

“Police will identify and track down the unlicensed moneylending syndicate that has dealt with the man, who was allegedly paid RM300 for each ‘job’,” said Shahrulanuar, adding that the suspect has several drug records, and tested positive for methamphetamine.

He urged members of the public with information on the incidents or syndicate to contact the nearest police station or call the Johor police hotline at 07-2212-999. – Bernama, January 17, 2021
