MIRI – The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee is drawing up tighter standard operating procedures for the coming Chinese New Year break after detecting 62 new Covid-19 cases in the state today.

The committee secretariat announced that the tighter SOPs for the CNY period are aimed at preventing further community infection.

Sarawak’s 62 cases today brings the state’s cumulative infections to 2,111.

Of the 62 cases, 43 are in Sibu, six in Miri, three in Kuching, two each in Julau, Meradong, and Beluru, and one each in Dalat, Bintulu, Kapit, and Belaga.

There are seven active clusters statewide, said the secretariat.

There are now 206 Covid-19 patients in Miri Hospital, 562 in Sibu Hospital, 102 in Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching, 46 in Bintulu Hospital, and one each in the Limbang and Kapit hospitals.

The Pasai Siong cluster in Sibu, resulting from a funeral ceremony in the Rumah Langi longhouse, has the highest number of cases in the state, with many spreading to other districts, said the secretariat. – The Vibes, January 17, 2021
