KUALA LUMPUR – National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique has tested positive for Covid-19, making her the fifth cabinet member to be infected with the virus.

In a statement today, the ministry said Halimah underwent screening yesterday, with the Health Ministry confirming the result as positive today.

“Halimah will undergo treatment and quarantine as instructed by health authorities in Johor Baru, and her condition to be closely monitored.

“While undergoing quarantine, the minister will continue to monitor the National Unity Ministry’s affairs to ensure that all activities run smoothly.

“Halimah expresses her heartfelt thanks to those who have offered well wishes and prayers, and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused due to this development,” the statement said.

Halimah is the fifth minister to test positive for Covid-19.

The first case was Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri, who tested positive on October 5 last year, followed by three ministers this month – Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed; Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun; and Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin. – The Vibes, January 19, 2021
