KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today recorded its highest number of fresh Covid-19 cases, with 4,275 cases since the start of the pandemic, reported the Health Ministry.
The ministry also announced seven new deaths, bringing the death toll to 667.
In contrast, 4,313 cases have recovered, the highest number of recoveries recorded throughout the pandemic period.
Selangor continued to lead with the highest number of infections at 1,421 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (548), Sabah (498), Johor (425), Melaka (278) and Perak (208).
Sarawak has 193 new cases with Penang logging 162 infections, Terengganu (131), Negri Sembilan (108), Kedah (105), Kelantan (78), Pahang (75), Putrajaya (35), Perlis (7) and Labuan (3).
Of the new infections, the ministry reported that 4,264 are local transmissions with 3,131 citizens and 1,133 foreigners while there are 11 import cases involving eight citizens and three foreigners.
With the latest record of fresh infections, the national Covid-19 tally is at 180,455, of which 42,769 are active cases.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry announced 11 new clusters today, with three involving Johor.
The worksite clusters of Jalan Timah Dua, Persiaran Tanjung and Jalan Canggih are in Johor. The three contributed 66 cases today.
Terengganu recorded two clusters – Kg Guntong Luar community cluster and Kg Bukit Biah religious cluster. They both have 15 cases today.
Sabah also detected one cluster – Kg Bombalai with two cases.
Melaka reported two new clusters – Tembok Sg Udang detention centre and the Tapak Bina Bali Residence worksite. Both have a total of 206 cases.
Kuala Lumpur also has two clusters – Tapak Bina Jalan Wangsa and Kilang Setapak. Both have a total of 75 cases.
Selangor has one worksite cluster, Tapak Bina Lebuh Puteri, which has 19 cases. – The Vibes January 23, 2021
