KLANG – There was drama early this morning as concerned members of the public including the Orang Asli community were barred from a public hearing to hear objections to the degazetting of the Kuala Langat Utara permanent forest reserve.
Disgruntled members of the press, Orang Asli community members and NGOs were seen waiting outside the Amverton Resort in Pulau Carey, Klang.
Police officers outside the station told attendees of the "town hall" that only persons who were on the list were allowed in.
Fortunately, by 8am the authorities started to allow in members who wanted to attend.
The state government has been criticised for its last minute notice which was published on September 23, and for holding the hearing in a remote area on a week day.
The hearing is chaired by Selangor Environment, Green Technology, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Hee Loy Sian. – The Vibes, September 29, 2020
