KUALA TERENGGANU – His 14-day quarantine and treatment experience upon being diagnosed Covid-19 last year has inspired Badrol Hisham Zaki, 52, to help others infected by the virus, whom he says are being stigmatised.

Given a clean bill of health and having recovered from the virus, he is now helping other Covid-19 patients and former patients by donating various necessities and sharing experiences.

“Every time I meet a person who has negative perception of Covid-19 patients, I tell them about my experience going through the ordeal so they can better understand and support patients in whichever way they can, instead of badmouthing them (patients) and their families.

“I do not want others to live through the bad experience my family and I underwent after I was confirmed positive for Covid-19 on September 25 last year. Even my wife’s bakery business was also affected then.

“I hope what I’m doing can help make society more aware,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

Badrol is deputy chairman of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society’s Terengganu branch.

He said that he has collected donations for more than 200 individuals in quarantine at a pondok institution. The donations from friends and the International Committee of the Red Cross’ Japanese chapter came in the form of food items and disinfectant.

“It weighed on my heart when I was informed that many students there had to undergo quarantine. Being quarantined can affect their feelings and emotions as they could not carry out their daily routine activities. The donation is hoped to have cheered them up and let them know that society cares about them,” he added. – Bernama, January 27, 2021
