SIPITANG – A 36-year-old man is being investigated for attempted murder after ramming into two police roadblocks in Melamam here at 1.30pm yesterday.  

Police said he was driving a Perodua Kancil from Sipitang to Tenom when he drove over traffic cones that were used to block the road.

Ten minutes later, he rammed another roadblock, damaging some police equipment as well.

The police were able to locate the man an hour after the incident. He had a punctured tyre by the road in Kg Bangsal Sindumin, about 1km from the second roadblock.  

He also failed the sobriety test administered by the police.

Sipitang district police chief Deputy Supt Champin Puih confirmed the incident and said that no security personnel were harmed during the incident.  

The police are investigating the case under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.  

The suspect faces up to 10 years imprisonment and fine if found guilty.
