KUALA LUMPUR – The fledgling Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) has called on Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba to step down after the nation reached a record high of 5,725 new Covid-19 cases yesterday.

“Malaysia has failed to control the spread of the virus despite the imposition of the movement control order (MCO) two weeks ago,” Muda said in a statement, stressing that the number is the highest daily figure since the pandemic hit Malaysia early last year.

It claims that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) regime has failed to show proper planning with the MCO.

“What does not make sense is the emergency declaration, which suspended the nation’s democratic institutions,” said Muda.

Instead of asking the citizens to evolve and comply with the new normal, the cabinet should also follow the new normal and lead by example.

“Muda calls upon the cabinet to be downsized by firing redundant ministers and passing on their responsibilities to civil servants,” Muda said.

It put forward a recommendation to PN to start by sacking Dr Adham and his deputies, stating that it would save costs. – The Vibes, January 30, 2021
