Cops hunt for suspected sex offender in Batu Pahat

BATU PAHAT – Police are hunting for a man who is believed to have impersonated a police officer and forcibly committed unnatural sex on a 23-year-old woman in a playground of a residential area here two days ago.

Batu Pahat police chief Ismail Dollah in a statement today said the woman lodged a report on the incident today, claiming that she was contacted by a man, who introduced himself as an officer from the Batu Pahat police headquarters.

It is understood that the victim and suspect had befriended each other on social media, and had met on a couple of occasions.

“The suspect invited the victim to accompany him to Simpang Renggam, near Kluang, to pick up a vehicle that was said to be under repair there.

“The victim then drove her car to Taman Banang Heights here to pick up the suspect, who demanded RM100 from her during the ride, on the pretext of covering the cost of repairing the vehicle.”

Ismail said while waiting for a call from a mechanic, the suspect, in his early 20s, sexually assaulted the victim.

He said efforts to find the suspect are being carried out, adding that anyone with information regarding the case should contact the district police headquarters at 07-4363-300. – Bernama, January 30, 2021
