KUALA LUMPUR – After spending 16 days in a villa without internet or phone access, two beauty queens have nothing to show for it; not even their RM77,000 winnings.
Based on the statement of claim obtained by The Vibes, Durga Devi Raggu and Durrgah Rajah are suing Measat Broadcast Network Systems (Astro) and Keris Media Networks for the money.
Astro had organised a Tamil-language beauty competition called Azhagin Azhagi 2020, and Keris Media was appointed to film and produce the show.
The competition, which aired on Astro’s Vinmeen HD channel, required contestants to stay in a villa in Rawang for 16 days with no access to phones or the internet.
Before that, they had to undergo auditions and qualify for the top 20.
Durga and Durggah attended the auditions and signed the “Azhagin Azhagi 2020 Terms and Conditions” agreement in 2019, making official their participation in the competition.
The duo also signed the “Additional Terms & Conditions for Participation in Azhagin Azhagi 2020 Beauty Pageant Talent Show” agreement.
Durga won the first prize of RM60,000 while Durggah took third place, winning RM17,000. The second place would get RM37,500.
The nine episodes aired from September 13, 2020 to November 8, 2020.
However, when the grand finale aired, the duo said the video was edited, blurring out the mock cheques that were handed to them.
“The plaintiffs plead that the decision to blur the cheque replicas show bad faith by the defendants to commit fraud against the plaintiffs,” the statement of claim read.
Further, Durga and Durggah said they were supposed to receive their money within three months from the airing of the grand finale.
