KUALA LUMPUR – On the first day of Chinese New Year, Malaysia registered 3,318 fresh Covid-19 infections.
This brings the national tally to 205,744 cases, with 51,579 still active.
However, on a positive note, today’s recorded recoveries are higher than new infections, at 3,505.
The Health Ministry also announced that 17 Covid-19 patients died today.
Of the deceased, 16 were Malaysians while one was a foreigner.
One of the Malaysians, a 62-year-old woman with a history of asthma and high blood pressure, was pronounced dead on arrival to Raub Hospital in Pahang.
Meanwhile, Selangor again recorded the highest number of infections at 1,215, followed by Johor (743 cases), Kuala Lumpur (379), Kedah (188), Penang (149), Sabah (118), Negri Sembilan (118), Perak (99), Sarawak (83), Kelantan (79), Terengganu (72), Malacca (45), Pahang (30), Putrajaya (6), and Labuan (1).
Perlis recorded no infections today.
As for clusters, 484 remain active, including the 14 new ones identified by the ministry today.
Johor now has the most clusters, with five worksite ones identified, while Selangor detected two.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur, Kedah, Malacca, and Kelantan each recorded one new cluster today.
