BUKIT MERTAJAM – Acting on a tip off, Penang police raided a factory in Jalan Pengkalan, Bukit Tengah to bust a gambling den and seized RM180,000 cash from the gamblers.

The police team led by Asst Spt Johari Yahya and Inspector Airedzuan raided the factory at about 4.45pm today to startle the gamblers who were also celebrating Chinese New Year.

Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Shafie Abd Samad said police found 

RM4,700 cash on the table when the “Chinese New Year” police team raided the factory.

Police arrested 14 Malaysians, a Taiwanese, two women from China and a minor from Hong Kong, all aged between 17 and 82.

Shafie said the case will be investigated under Section 6 (1) of House of Gaming Act 1953 and Section 269 of the Penal Code.

He said police also seized playing cards, dice and 11 chairs.

The suspects were taken to the district police headquarters in Bandar Perda for further investigation. – The Vibes, February 13, 2021
