KOTA KINABALU – Twenty-one business premises were issued compounds by the Sabah Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry office as part of festive maximum price scheme checks across the state.
A total of 1,920 premises were inspected from February 8 to February 16 in conjunction with Chinese New Year.
Sabah Consumer Affairs director Georgie Abas said that the office recorded 23 cases, where 21 had been issued compounds amounting to RM3,200 in total, while two others were pending investigation.
“The majority of these cases were for the offence of not exhibiting price tags on products sold (18 cases), while four were found to be selling items above the maximum set price.
“The remaining case is for failing to use special price tags in pink for controlled items during the festive season,” he said.
He added that the office had not received any complaints filed by the public during the nine-day maximum price scheme.
“In general, compliance during Chinese New Year in Sabah was satisfactory, and we hope that business owners continue to adhere to the rulings during the coming festivities, ” he added. – The Vibes, February 17, 2021
