PUTRAJAYA – In his speech commemorating Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) first year in power, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin gave his assurance that none of the ordinances enacted during the current state of emergency are aimed at enabling the prime minister to stay in power forever.
In his speech at the “Setahun Malaysia Prihatin” ceremony to toast one year of PN rule in Putrajaya after wresting power from the Pakatan Harapan administration, Muhyiddin also again promised that Parliament will be dissolved once the Covid-19 pandemic is under control.
Muhyiddin also said that this is the first time in Malaysian history that a state of emergency has an end date, that being August 1.
He also expressed confidence in the Special Independent Committee appointed by the Agong, which includes opposition members.
“As I have stressed before, I adopt the principles enshrined in the constitution and democracy. Once the pandemic is over, which I hope will be very soon, I will advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to dissolve Parliament. Until such time, my colleagues in the cabinet and I will continue to carry out our duties and responsibilities to the best of our ability,” Muhyiddin said.
Present at the ceremony that also marks Muhyiddin’s first year in office were Senior Minister (International Trade and Industry) Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Senior Minister (Works) Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Senior Minister (Education) Datuk Radzi Jidin and heads of government departments. – The Vibes, March 1, 2021
