MIRI – A 13-year-old girl was found drowned in a river adjacent to a riverine village in the Padawan district of southern Sarawak last night.

Racheal Stanley was found in waters along Kg Giam Lama about 10pm last night.

Divers from the Padawan and Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Department stations discovered her body when carrying out a series of dives after her family reported her as missing while she was playing in the river earlier that afternoon.

The state Fire and Rescue Department said today it received an emergency alert yesterday about 4pm.

“The girl had gone missing while playing in the waters.

“Search-and-rescue units were deployed immediately to the site and they carried out surface searches but could not find her.

“Divers then made a series of dives in the river, which is about 8m deep.

“Her body was later found about 30m away from the spot where she was last seen.

“The remains have been handed over to the police,” it said. – The Vibes, March 4, 2021
