KOTA KINABALU – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has cleared the RM300 million made out to AirAsia Group by the Sabah Development Bank as the investigation did not produce evidence of wrongdoing.
A letter purportedly issued by the bank dated January 15 said it was an update to the MACC investigation into the loan, which was approved during Warisan Plus’ rule over the state before it lost the election last September.
“Further to your statement dated October 28, 2020, and January 4, 2021, on the subject of the MACC probe into the RM300 million in loans granted by SDB to the subsidiaries of AirAsia Group, the board of directors is pleased to provide an update in respect to the probe.
“SDB would like to inform that the files and documents requested by MACC to assist it in its probe have been returned to our office on January 13, 2021.
“MACC has further (said) that the probe did not produce any evidence of wrongdoings under the MACC Act 2009,” said a letter addressed the SDB trustee for bondholders.
The letter was signed by SDB chairman Datuk Hassanel Mohd Tahir and managing director Datuk Vincent Pung Yee Kiong.
The Vibes also reached out to Sabah MACC over said letter, which was posted by Warisan assemblyman Datuk Junz Wong on his Facebook page today.
