MIRI – A cluster involving a mall in Jalan Merpati here is now Sarawak’s biggest outbreak zone today, said the state Disaster Management Committee secretariat.
“Miri today recorded 88 new Covid-19 infections, and 51 of them are from the Jalan Merpati cluster. The index case in this cluster is a 45-year-old woman working there,” it said, adding that those found positive have been sent to Miri Hospital.
The state, which logged 225 cases today, has 32 active clusters, where more than 300 people have been screened in the Jalan Merpati cluster.
Aside from Miri, other districts that saw new cases were Kuching (32), Bintulu (30), Serian (18), Sibu (13), Sri Aman (12), Kapit (11), and others (fewer than 10 cases each).
The death toll remains at 94, with some 12,500 cases state-wide.
Today, Sibu Hospital has 704 Covid-19 patients, followed by Miri Hospital (456), Bintulu Hospital (305), Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching (282), Kapit Hospital (211), Sarikei Hospital (150), Betong Hospital (142), Serian Hospital (36), Sri Aman Hospital (32), Mukah Hospital (18), and Limbang Hospital (3). – The Vibes, March 17, 2021
