PENAMPANG – Despite being from a party aligned with the Perikatan Nasional government, Sabah STAR president Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan said it was unnecessary of the government to file an appeal against the high court ruling on the use of the word “Allah” by non-Muslims.
He opined that the move was only made to please Muslim voters.
“Everyone has the right to appeal the court’s decision, but I think they are just playing to the gallery, their constituencies. They have to show that they are fighting for the voters,” he said.
On the federal government’s decision to introduce the Control and Restriction on the Propagation of Non-Muslim Religions Bill, Kitingan said he will only comment on the matter after the cabinet’s discussion on the matter.
Kitingan, who is also Sabah Deputy Chief Minister II and Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, said this at a press conference after launching the Tagal System in Kg Rugading River here today.
At the event, Kitingan approved a RM25,000 allocation for the construction of the hub to help the locals here realise the Tagal System, which aims to restore depleting fishery resources, keep the rivers free from pollution, and generate income for local communities.
He released 1,000 fishes into the river as a symbolic gesture of the launching, and advised the locals to take care of the environment and the river’s periphery.
The Tagal System was developed by the Sabah state government and Fisheries Department based on the concept of community-based fishery resources management concept.
The concerned communities are still allowed to harvest fish from the rivers, but sustainably. – The Vibes, March 27, 2021
